Oliver with his favorite big brother!

My sweet Oliver was not a fan of the light this morning!

It has been a long 5 days in the hospital with Oliver.  There is a little man next door that has been screaming for the past two days!  I would love to snatch him up and love on him!

Oliver has gained 5 ounces since our admission on Friday!  Unfortunately, Oliver did not gain any weight today.  (He actually lost a little bit!  Total bummer!)  On Friday we were feeding Oliver from the bottle and tube feeding him what he did not take orally.  But on Saturday the doctors decided to strictly tube feed until aspiration was ruled out.  Yesterday, he passed his swallow screen!  He does have what they call “penetration”.  The radiologist said that penetration occurs when the fluid goes to the vocal cords, but does not enter into the lungs.  Since he passed the swallow screen, the doctors are back to letting us give him a bottle and tube feeding him what he is unable to take by mouth.  We met with an occupational therapist and she has us feeding Oliver in a side-lying position using a preemie nipple with our Dr. Brown bottles.

The cardiologist said if Oliver can take what he needs to stay hydrated, they would send us home!  If his weight continues to be a concern, they will consider performing the open heart surgery in a month.  I have a feeling that Oliver is on the up swing and will be getting better and bigger!
